College & Career Center Visits

In the months of October and November, beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, LPS partners with a variety of local colleges and career centers to offer visits for all of our 8th grade students. These visits provide our students with an overview of a college or career center experience by allowing them to tour the campus/career center of their choosing, meet with students and staff, and learn more about the programs each college/career center offers.

Wellington Senior Living Read Aloud - Retired teacher residents from the Wellington Senior Living Center read to Kindergarten and First Grade students (from Franklin's summer school classrooms). In honor of "Don't Step on a Bee" week, they read the book "Give Bees a Chance."
Poetry Projects - During music class at Lillian Schumacher, students used iMovie to create short visuals to accompany their recitation of a chosen poem.
3 Billy Goats Gruff PBL - Students in Mrs. Spencer's (Lillian Schumacher) class engaged in a PBL opportunity, culminating in a Readers Theatre production.
Vacation PBL - Students at Lillian Schumacher researched regions and chose a location they would like to vacation and presented their ideas.
City Park Field Trip - ESC students at Lillian Schumacher went to City Park to play and enjoy lunch within the Liberty community.
Name Songs - Second and third grade students at Lillian Schumacher created songs based on the "Your Name is a Song."
Carnival Games - Third grade students at Liberty Oaks summer school site designed, created, and played carnival games.
Puppet Show - The summer school library staff at Liberty Oaks put on a puppet show for all Kindergartners to enjoy!
Firefighter Visit - Liberty firefighters visited Warren Hills and spoke with first-third grade students about fire safety.
Field Trip to Ruth Moore Park - BEST students in grades K-3 at Warren Hills visited Ruth Moore Parl to play at the playground and splash pad!
