LPS Early College
Liberty Public Schools began the Early College program in the 2019-20 school year through a partnership with Metropolitan Community College (MCC). Juniors and seniors at our high schools have the opportunity to attend morning or afternoon classes on the Maple Woods campus taking college classes for both high school and college credit. Our inaugural class included 20 students from both Liberty High School and Liberty North High School. These students met the college entrance requirements for MCC and took between 9-13 hours of college credit each semester. The majority of these classes will transfer to other colleges and universities if the student chooses to continue their education at another school. An even better incentive for students and families is that Liberty Public School pays for the courses and textbooks.
Using research from the National Student Clearinghouse, researchers at the American Institutes for Research studied 10 early-college programs. Their research found that students who participated in an Early College program were more likely to enroll in a college or university and complete a degree after high school graduation. LPS is excited about the opportunity to grow this program over the coming years and make it available to more students.
“Going to MCC has been such a learning experience and has started to prepare me for the style of learning I will experience when I leave for a university. It is the best decision I have made in my high school career and I love it!
-McKenna Jones, a senior at Liberty North High School
