Step 1: Employer Defines Workforce Need
Meet with the Liberty Public Schools Apprenticeship Coordinator to identify the position you want to fill and share a job description. LPS Apprenticeship Coordinator gets preliminary approval from Department of Labor and Department of Education.
Step 2: LPS Posts Position & Recruits Qualified Students
LPS posts the apprenticeship opportunity to students, recruits eligible students, and screens applicants based on established guidelines:
- 16 years of age or older
- On track to graduate
- 90%+ Attendance
- 2.75+ cumulative GPA
- Completed at least three semesters of Career & Technical Education (CTE) coursework aligned to apprenticeship placement with a grade of B or higher
- Positive recommendations of work readiness from two teachers
Step 3: Employer Interviews Candidates
Qualified students apply for your apprenticeship position. You interview the candidates and select the student who best fits your organization. There’s no obligation to hire.
Step 4: Employer Hires Apprentice
Extend an offer of employment to your selected candidate. Your apprentice joins your team while continuing to work toward their high school diploma.
Step 5: We Coordinate the Rest
The LPS Apprenticeship Coordinator:
- Registers the apprentice with the U.S. Department of Labor
- Supports coordination of the student's school and work schedule
- Serves as your point of contact throughout the apprenticeship
- Completes Department of Labor reporting with employer input
